The figure in the right-hand margin represents the Prophet Micah who is referred to by the learned men. The treatment of decorative and pictorial details in the miniature, of the marginal and the initial results in the stylistic uniformity of the overall design of the page. The artist displays a perfect command of figural representation -in spite of their small size, the figures are minutely elaborated, and their movements and postures are expressive and natural.�I denna version kombinerar konstnären flera kronologisk oförenliga scener referrerande till ankomsten av de vise männen till Jerusalem: han visar de vise männen som en isolerad grupp; sedan som stående framför Herodes som frågar dem om Jesus födelseplats och rådfrågar de lärda männen; slutgligen visas de vise männen för tredje gången som åkande från staden. Figuren i den högra sidan av marginalen representerar profeten Mika som tilltalas av en av de vise männen. Behandlingen av de dekorativa och bildliga detaljerna i miniatyren, hos marginalen och initialen resulterar i den stilistiska uniformiteten av den övergripande siddesignen. Tserun belongs to a group of Vaspurakan artists whose work was entirely based on and inspired by the local traditions of book illumination. Tserun had numerous pupils and followers, so that the term "Tserunian style" came to be adopted in specialist literature.�Tserun tillhör en grupp avVaspourakans konstnärer vars verk var helt baserat på och inspirerat av de lokala traditionerna för bokmålning. Tserun hade flera elever och följare, så att begreppet "Tseruniska stilen" kom att antas i speciella litteratur.

/mtd-dia-164-m.jpg "The illumination of the Perugia Gospels owes much to the Latin manuscript tradition. The influence of Latin illuminated Gospels is manifest in the Evangelists' portraits which are incorporated into the headpiece of the corresponding Gospel. The Evangelists are fair-haired and have tonsures which make them look like Roman Catholic priests. Latin models are also discernible in the decorative initials and in the ornamentation of the page. The somewhat schematic treatment of details, however, as well as the lack of optical approach and the saturated colouring should be undoubtedly referred to the national Armenian tradition.�Målningen från Perugia-evangeliet brås mycket på den latinska manuskripttraditionen. Inflyttandet av latinska illustrerade evengelierna sysns i evangelisternas porträtt som finns inarbetade i huvudstycket i respektive evengeliebok. Evangelisterna är fagerhåriga och har tonsurer som gör att de ser ut som romerk-katolska präster. Latinska modeller är också urskiljbara i de dekorativa initialerna och i utsmyckningen av sidan. Den någon schematiska behandlingen av detaljer, så väl som avsknaden av optisk närmande och den mörka färgsättningen bör dock refereras utan tvekan till den armeniska nationella traditionen.")

/mtd-cil-111-m.jpg "The ornamentation of the headpiece is based on a pattern of interlacing red lines which form pentagonal and octagonal stars standing out against the gold background in a kind of decorative lattice. The use of black aimed at giving prominence to the pattern emphasizes the glow of the gold and imparts an additional splendour to the decor of the headpiece. The treatment of the ornamental patterns in this and other manuscripts of the same school is much more detailed and elaborate than in the miniatures produced at Hromkla. The marginal ornamentation on this page may serve as a good example. It is based on a very complicated pattern in which every subsequent motif grows, as it were, out of the one preceding it: thus, the foliate design incorporates various figures; the interlacing bands support human heads crowned by the figures of birds, whose tails form new interlacing bands, and so on. Worthy of attention is the script which, apart from the usual ornate initial, is composed of large ornamental characters incorporating zoomorphic and geometric elements.�Överstyckets utsmyckning är baserad på ett mönster av sammanflätade röda linjer som formar fem- och åttasidiga stjärnor som står ut mot den gyllene bakgrunden i ett dekorativt galler. Användningen av svart som är menat att ge tyngd till mönstret betonar glöden hos guldet och skänker ytterligare skönhet till dekoren hos överstycket. Behandlingen av de dekorativa mönstren i detta och andra manuskript från samma skola är mycket mer detaljerade och ingående än i miniatyrer producerade i Hromkla. Marginalutsmyckningen på denna sida kan tjäna som ett gott exempel. The figures of the Evangelists strike by the magnificence of their rich attire. In accordance with the Cilician tradition which obviously was known to the Crimean master, St. Luke is represented with St.Theophilos.<br>Besides his own contribution to the illustrative cycle, the artist did some careful renewing of the miniatures by his predecessor from Bologna.�Miniatyren porudcerades i Krim av en mästare vars konst är anmärkningsvärt för dess rafinering och skicklighet hos modelleringen av ansikten och för dess mjukhet och delikatessen hos hans palett. Evageliefigurerna är slående i deras magnifika rika klädsel. I enlighet med den kilikiska traditionen som uppenbarligen var känd för den krimiska mästaren, är S:t Lukas representerad med S:t Theophilus. The manuscript was begun in the thirteenth century in Bologna, Italy, and finished in 1368 in the Crimea. In the seventeenth century the initial parts of the Old Testament were rewritten and illuminated anew, also in the Crimea. Despite the different dates of their production the three sections of the manuscript produce a remarkably uniform impression due to the fact that each succeeding master apparently tried to remain faithful to the original stylistic principles.�Manuskriptet börjades under 1200-talet i Bologna, Italien och avslutades år 1368 i Krim. Under 1600-talet skrev man om initiala delarna till det Gamla Testamentet och målade om dem, även det i Krim. Trots olika produktionsdatum för de tre sektionerna skapar manuskriptet ett märkvärdigt unifotmt intryck på grund av det faktum att varje efterföljande mästare har tydligen försökt vara troget de ursprungliga stilistika principerna.

The miniatures in this manuscript are among Taronatsi's best works. In these miniatures the local traditions of Siunik are curiously mixed with tendencies derived from Cilician art.�Miniatyrerna i detta manuskript är bland Taronatsis bästa verk. I dessa miniatyrer blandas de lokala traditionerna i Siunik noggrannt med tendenser från den kilikiska konsten.
