Document Date: 0-The Evangelist is depicted in accordance with the conventional scheme adopted at the scriptoria of Siunik against a wall which separates the figure from the buildings seen in the background. The buildings, although schematically treated, resemble actually existing structures. The same applies to the chair on which the Evangelist is seated: similar wooden chairs are still in use in Armenian villages.�Evangelisten är avbildad i enlighet med konventionella riktlinjer antagna vid Siuniks skriptorium mot en vägg som separerar figurerna från byggnaderna som syns i bakgrunden. Byggnaderna, trots det schematiska behandlingen, påminner faktiskt om verkliga strukturer. Det samma gäller stolen på vilken evangelisten sitter: liknande trästolar finns fortfarande i armeniska byar.-1297�

The picture resembles a carpet, and this visual effect is further enhanced by the ornamental bands added to the frame and creating the impression of a carpet fringe.�Utsmyckningen spelar en ledande roll i illustartionen av detta manuskript, som även är ett framstående exemplar även bland illustrerade miniatyrer. Här, dekorerar de utsmyckande mönstren inte bara bakgrunden och bidrar med arkitektoniska detaljer, utan dekorerar även evangelisternas skrud. Document Date: 0-The miniatures in the manuscript betray the influence of Cilician art embracing both iconography and technique. The ample use of gold is also a distinctly Cilician feature. Certain characteristics, however, rule out the possibility of attributing the manuscript to a Cilician master. Such is, for example, the free and sweeping manner of painting resulting in a somewhat generalized treatment of forms, typical of the north-east of historical Armenia.�Miniatyrerna i manuskriptet avslöjar inflytandet av kilikiansk konst som omfattar både ikonografin och tekniken. Den rikliga användningen av guld är också ett välkänt kilikianskt drag. Vissa särdrag utesluter dock möjligheten att manuskriptet kan vara producerat av ett kilikianskt mästare. Document Date: 0-The general treatment of the scene corresponds to the iconographic tradition accepted at the time, deviating from it only in the representation of the angels, which are depicted floating in the air instead of standing on the river bank. Such an interpretation, unusual for medieval art, can be traced back to early Eastern Christian models. Closely related in this respect to the Matenadaran Gospels is the thirteenth-century Arabian manuscript in the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris (Ms. 13).�Den allmänna behandlingen av scenen motsvarar den ikonografiska traditionen som var accepterad vid denna tid, avvikande från den endast i representationen av änglarna som är avbildade svävande i luften istället för stående vid flodstranden. Document Date: 0-The iconography of the miniature is similar to that of the Resurrection scene in the 1038 Gospels (MS6201). Its most remarkable feature is the presence of Christ risen from the dead, together with the soldiers guarding the tomb and with the Holy Women arriving at the sepulchre. A similar iconographic version, rare in Eastern Christian art, is to be found in the Simon Psalter, a Russian illuminated manuscript dating from the thirteenth century (known also as the Khludov Psalter, after its nineteenth-century owner Alexei Khludov, a Moscow merchant and collector), and also in some Syrian manuscripts. S. Der Nersessian regards this scene as an example of amalgamation of two or more motifs, typical of the Vaspourakan school.�Miniatyrens ikonografi är lik den hos Återuppståndelse-scenen i 1038 års Evangelium (MS6201). Document Date: 0-Ovsian was the only fourteenth-century Vaspurakan miniaturist to have been inspired by the motif of The Remorse of Judas. The treatment of the scene, however, is in tune with the master's usual grotesque and somewhat naive manner. The setting for the figures is provided by a framework of arch-shaped ornamental bands reminiscent of an architectural construction, which, together with the rhythmically balanced arrangement of the figures, imparts a theatrical touch to the scene.�Ovsian var den ende 1300-tals minityrmålaren i Vaspourakan som har inspirerats av motiv rörande Judas samvetskval. Återgivningen av scenen är dock i linje med mästarens vanliga groteska och någorlunda naiva sätt. Scenbilden för figurerna anskaffas av ett ramverk av bågformade utsmyckningar som påminner om en arkitektonisk konstruktion, vilken, tillsammans med det rytmisk balanserande arrangemanget of figurerna återger en teatrisk ton till scenen. -1316�

Document Date: 0-In accordance with the Vaspurakan tradition of the time, the accent in Vardan's interpretation of the Nativity is on the motif of The Adoration of the Magi. In the miniature, the Virgin and Child turn their heads to look at the approaching Magi. The laconic composition includes only the principal characters, represented against an almost blank background, with a summary indication of the setting. The drawing is both delicate and supple, and the contours are painted in light and dark shades of blue, which gives them a dynamic vividness. The light and airy treatment of the miniature produces the impression of a water-colour.�Enligt dåtidens tradition i Vaspourakan, finns tonfallet i Vardans tolkning av Jesu födelse i motivet hos De vise männens tillbedjan- I miniatyren vänder Jungfrun och barnet sina huvuden för att titta på de annalkande vise männen. Den ordknappa kompositionen inkluderar endast de viktiga karaktärerna, representerade mot en så gott som blank bakgrund och en sammanfattande indikation av scenbilden. Ritningen är både delikat och smidig och konturerna är målade med ljusa och mörka nyanser av blå, vilka ger dem en dynamisk livlighet. Den lätta och luftiga sammansättningen av miniatyren producerar intrycket av en vattenfärg.-1319�
