The horizontal composition allows for a free and unrestrained arrangement of the figures, which, in its turn, contributes to the mood of concentration and tranquillity permeating the scene. The soft, somewhat restrained colouring composed of pink, blue, pale lilac, violet and light green shades enhances this effect.<br>In presenting the Disciples as listening to their Teacher the artist obviously sought to capture their different reaction to Christ's words, their different manner of listening, thus making a bold, if only tentative attempt at individualization.�")

The miniatures of Hrstakes are usually stylized to such an extent that the forms of the figures, the folds of their garments, the details of the setting, etc. are subordinated to the all-important linear effect and are therefore perceived as purely ornamental details. At the same time, in spite of the limited palette, composed mainly of green and red with occasional additions of blue and brown, his miniatures impress one by the harmony of their colouring and the skilfully balanced composition.�Återigen har vi här två scener illustrerande Kristi mirakel - ett motiv som var extremt populär hos Vaspourakans miniatyrmålare - lagts ihop på en sida. Miniatyrerna av Hrstakes är vanligen så pass stiliserade att formerna hos figurerna, vecken hos deras kläder, detaljerna hos arrangemanget etc. är underordnade den viktiga linjära effekten och är därför ansedda som rent dekorativa detaljer. Samtidigt, trots den begränsade paletten, komponerad i huvudsak med grönt och rött och bitvis tillägg av blått och brunt, imponerar hans miniatyrer en genom harmonin hos deras färgsättning och den skickligt balanserade kompositionen.")

The only element which imparts a certain measure of realism to the miniature is the Prince's dress imitating the traditional attire of Armenian kings, with regard to its general design and colour. Similar representations of the royal garments, accurately conveying the precious, richly ornamented material of which they were made, frequently occur in Armenian miniatures and wall paintings from the tenth century onwards.�Porträttet visar det mest karaktäristiska tännetecknet hos den medeltida stilen: den strikta frontvyn hos figuren, den rigida resta attityden, den konventionella positionen hos armar och slutligen den schematiska behandlingen av ansiktet som är nästan ytterst utan några som helst portsättkaraktärer. /mtd-cil-131-m.jpg "The traditional austere solemnity of the Ascension scene, created first and foremost by its strictly symmetrical composition, is somewhat disturbed in this version due to the nervously expressive postures of the apostles and the dynamic movements of the flying angels.<br>Unfortunately the almost complete loss of blues in the paint layer impedes an adequate appreciation of the original colouring of the miniature and diminishes its overall emotional impact. We may try to visualize the original colouring with the help of the few preserved patches of blue. The colour combinations must have been refined and exquisite, including the contrasting shades of dark blue, pinkish-violet and gold. In all other miniatures in this manuscript the illuminator shows himself as a fine colourist with a rich and effective palette dominated by a wide range of violet and lilac shades.�Den traditionella spartanska högtidligheten hos scenen om Kristi himmelsfärd, skapad först och främst genom dess slående symmetriska komposition, är något störd i denna version på grund av den nervöst uttrycka kroppshållningen hos apostlarna och de dynamiska rörelserna hos de flygande änglarna. Tyvärr hämamr den så gott som totala förlusten av den blåa färgen en tillfredsställande uppskattning av den originella färgsättningen hos miniatyren och förringar dess känslomässiga intryck. Vi må försöka visualisera den ursprungliga färgsättningen med hjälp av de få bevarade bitarna av blå. Färgkombinationerna måste ha varit raffinerade och utsökta, inklusive kontrasterande nyanser av mörkblå, rosa-lila och guld. I alla andra miniatyrer i manuskriptet visar illustratören sig själv som en skicklig färgsättare med rika och effektiva paletter, dominerade av stor bred av violet och lila nyanser.")

As far as the manner of representation is concerned, the artist combines two different artistic principles: while the treatment of the faces and hands betrays an attempt at rendering the effect of volume, the folds of the garments and the background remain somewhat schematic. Such dual character of representation was on the whole characteristic of the Crimean miniature.�Scenen är behandlad i enlighet med det välkända kanoniska schemat. The colophon of the Lectionary mentions the name of only one illuminator of the manuscript - Arakel. But comparison with a stylistically related manuscript signed by Kirakos (Venice, Mkhitarist Library, Monastery of St. Lazarus, MS904) seems to prove the latter's participation in illustrating the Crimean Lectionary.�Kolofonen hos evangelieboken nämner namnet för endast en målare, Arakel. Men jämförelse med ett stilistiskt relaterat manuskript signerat av Kirakos (Venedig, Mkhitaristbiblioteket, S:t Lazarus kloster, MS904) vekar bevisa att den senares deltagande i målningen av krimiska evangelieboken.

Tserun belongs to a group of Vaspurakan artists whose work was entirely based on and inspired by the local traditions of book illumination. Tserun had numerous pupils and followers, so that the term "Tserunian style" came to be adopted in specialist literature.�Tserun tillhör en grupp avVaspourakans konstnärer vars verk var helt baserat på och inspirerat av de lokala traditionerna för bokmålning. Tserun hade flera elever och följare, så att begreppet "Tseruniska stilen" kom att antas i speciella litteratur.
