Thus, the facial type of the Evangelist, his somewhat heavy figure, the technique of face-modelling, and, finally, the choice of red, dark blue and dove-grey for the decoration of the framework go back to earlier models. But as interpreted by an artist working in the last decade of the century, there is a noticeable deterioration in almost all pictorial elements which lose their original harmonious integrity. This is especially evident in the simplified treatment of the figure, in the awkwardness of the posture, in the crude colouring and in the schematic linear design.�Stilen hos miniatyren påminner om vissa drag hos kilikiska bokmåleriet under 1280-talet. Därför är ansiktsuttrycken hos evangelisten, hans något tunga figur, tekniken hos ansiktsmodelleringen och slutgligen, valet av rött, mörkblå och duvgrått för dekorationen av ramverket går tillbaka till tidigare modeller. Men som tolkad av en konstnär som arbetade under de senare decennierna i seklet, finns det anmärkningsvärda avvikelser i nästan alla bildliga element som förlorar sin ursprungliga harmoniska integritet. Instead of the usual method of incorporating the illustrations into the text, adopted by most Cilician artists, Sargis Pidzak resorts to a compromise between the Oriental custom of grouping all the illustrations together and placing them before the text of the manuscript in a separate fascicle, and the Byzantine tradition of preceding each of the four Gospels with a full-page illustration: he places two miniatures before each of the Gospels. Apart from these, the manuscript contains a great number of marginal historiated miniatures which form a kind of reduced illustrative cycle. Thus, the motif of The Annunciation is represented only by the figure of the archangel, the episode of The Presentation in the Temple by an outline of a small church, etc.�Istället för den vanliga metoden för inarbetnignen av illustrationer in i texten, använt av de flesta kilikiska konstnärer, Sargis Pidzak använder sig av en kompromiss mellan orientaliska seder för gruppering av alla illustrationer tillsammans och deras placering innan manuskriptets text i en separat fascikel, och den bysantinska traditionen för föregången av var och en av de fyra evangelierna med fullsidiga illustrationer: han placerar två minatyrer innan varje evangelium. Föruom dessa, innehåller manuskriptet ett stort antal illustrerade miniatyrer i marginalen, vilka formar en sorts reducerad illustrativ cykel. Därmed presenteras motiven för Jungfrus bebådelse endast med figuren för ärkeängeln, episoden för Presentationen i templet, genom konturen av en liten kyrka etc.

The Virgin is shown as a young peasant woman wearing a bright-coloured dress. With the water jug upon her shoulders, she stares at the archangel in genuine surprise at this sudden appearance. The light and cheerful colouring combines with the gay floral ornamentation in imparting a joyful atmosphere to the scene.�Miniatyren representerar en sällsynt ikonografisk version baserd på apokryfiska källor - Bebådelsen vid brunnen. Jungfrun visas som en ung bondekvinna iklädd en ljusfärgad klänning. Med en vattenkanna på sina axlar, stirrar hon på ärkeängeln med en riktig förvåning för hans plötsiga uppenbarelse. Ljuset och den glada färgsättningen kombinerar med den glada blommiga utsmyckningen i återgivningen av en fröjdfull atmosfär i scenen.")

The outline of the Cross serves as an important expressive element of the composition. /mtd-cil-102-m.jpg "Whereas in The Descent from the Cross (PL 96) the artist emphasized the inner dramatism of the scene, in The Crucifixion he is more concerned with the motifs of sacrifice and redemption, and in his attempt to convey the latter he endows the otherwise mournful scene with a certain touch of elation. This is achieved by the soft colouring excluding all contrasting colours, as well as by the treatment of the principal characters. The allegories of Ecclesia and Synagogue which were quite a novelty in the Armenian miniature at the time were borrowed by the artist from Byzantine and Western European art.�Medan i Nedstigningen från korset (PL96) har konstnären betonat den inre dramatiken i scenen, är han i Korsfästelsen mer mån om motiven för uppoffring och botgöring och i sitt försök att uttrycka den senare skänker han en viss upprymdhet till den i övrigt sorgsna scenen. Detta uppnås genom den mjuka färgsättningen så väl som genom behandlingen av huvudkaraktärerna. Predikarens och Synagogans allegorier som var något av en nymodighet i armeniska miniatyren vid denna tid lånades av konstnären från BYsans och västeuropeisk konst.")

The treatment of the characters is remarkable for the delicately outlined ovals of their faces, without the dark contours typical of the majority of Armenian miniatures. The soft and delicate pictorial treatment is accompanied here by a freedom of figural arrangement and an obvious interest in rendering the visual effect of space and volume.�Inte bara bearbetnigssättet, utan även ansiktstyperna i denna miniatyr är utan tvivel tagna från bysantinsk konst. Behandlingen av karaktärerna är utomordentliga för sin delikat skissade ovala ansiktena, utan de mörka konturerna som är typiska för majoriteten av armeniska miniatyrer. The 1332 Gospels belongs to the small group of Crimean/Armenian manuscripts whose illumination was inspired by the art of the Palaeologan Renaissance.
The miniatures in the manuscript easily fall into two groups representing the work of two different masters, one of them probably being Grigor Sukiasants who is mentioned in the colophon as the scribe of the book.�1332 års Evengeliebok tillhör den lilla gruppen av Krim-armeniska manuskript vilkas målninagr inspirerades av konsten hos Palaeologiska renässansen. Miniatyrerna i gruppen faller enkelt i två grupper, representerade av verket tillhörande två olika mästare, avvilka en var förmodligen Grigor Sukiasants som omnämns i kolofonen som författare till boken.
