The Virgin is depicted sitting beside the cradle. The face looming near it represents Eve, whose appearance in the scene of The Nativity symbolizes redemption of the original sin. The same implication is probably attached to a miniature from a thirteenth-century Greek Gospel manuscript (Paris, Musee National, MS543), where the motif of The Fall is accompanied by the motif of The Nativity.�Scenens komposition är baserad på en arkaisk iconografisk modell vanligt i både den tidiga kristendomskonsten i Bysans och i den medeltida europeiska målningen. Jungfrun är avbildad sittande vid sidan om vaggan. Ansiktet som syns nära henne representerar Eva, vems närvaro i Kristi födelses scen symboliserar frälsningen från det ursprunliga syndet. In their treatment of these subjects the artists, although mainly relying upon the iconographic canon, sometimes offered their own interpretation. The miniatures are remarkable for the emotional dynamism of their composition and for the keen and expressive eyes and animated features of the characters, depicted in the lively and unrestrained manner of folk art. They also demonstrate the remarkable skill of the artist who was an accomplished miniaturist, as well as a fine draughtsman and a perfect colourist.�Två scener som avbildats på en sida är ett traditionellt särdrag hos illustrerade manuskript i Vaspourakan. Miniatyrerna är märkvärdiga för den känslomässiga dynamiken hos deras komposition och för deras skarpa och uttrycksfulla ögon och målade drag hos karaktärerna, avbildade i det livliga och lediga sättet hos folkkonst. /mtd-dia-157-m.jpg "The decor of the folio, obviously inspired by Cilician models, bears the mark of the Crimean artist's own manner: the ornamental forms are more generalized than their Cilician counterparts, the use of gold is more sparing, and the background is dark blue. The most remarkable feature of the decor is undoubtedly the treatment of the ornate initial, based on the motif of The Adoration of the Shepherds and composed of the figures of three shepherds, one blowing a pipe, the second carrying a sacrificial lamb, and the third about to perform the rite.�Dekoren hos sidan, uppenbarligen inspirerade av kilikiska modeller, bär den krimiska konstnärens egna märken: de dekorativa formerna är mer generaliserade än kilikiska exemplar, användningen av guld är mer sparsamt och bakgrunden är mörkblå. Det mest anmärkningsvärda draget hos dekoren är utan tvekan behandlingen av den utsmyckade initialen, baserad på motiv av Herdarnas tillbedjan och komponerad av de tre herdarnas figurer, en som blåser en pipa, den andre bärande ett offerlamm och en tredje på väg att utföra en ritual.")
