Contrary to the predominant iconographic convention the Infant Christ is depicted as stepping forward to meet St. Simeon. A similar archaic treatment is to be found in a carved ivory diptych dating from the seventh or eighth century in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. The ornamentation decorating the pillars and the dome of the temple plays a key role in the miniature.�De tolv rapphönsen som krönar templet symboliserar apostlarna. I motsats till den dominerande ikonografiska konventionen är Jesubarnet avbildad som framlutande för att möta S:t Simeon. En liknande arkaisk behandling kan hittas i en uthuggen elfenbensdypikt från 600- eller 700-talet i Victoria and Albert Musuem, London. The miniatures in this manuscript are among Taronatsi's best works. In these miniatures the local traditions of Siunik are curiously mixed with tendencies derived from Cilician art.�Miniatyrerna i detta manuskript är bland Taronatsis bästa verk. The contrast between the relatively small figure of St. Mark and the tall magnificent buildings reaching almost to the top border creates an effect of solemnity. The optical treatment of the townscape shows that the artist was familiar with the laws of perspective, while the tonal modelling of the face and the body of St. Mark betrays an attempt to convey volume. The palette of the miniature is more varied than that of the khorans and first pages thanks to the use of ochreous, light green, pale lilac and blue shades supporting the basic combination of reds and dark blues.�Porträtten av evangelisterna i Smbats evangelium, lik de i 1270 års Bibel, är markerade med ett uppenbart intresse för det arkitektoniska skapandet. Kontrasten mellan den relativ lilla figuren av S:t Markus och den långa magnifika byggnaden som sträcker sig nästan ända upp till övre kanten skapar en effekt av storhet. Den optiska behandlingen av stadslanskapet visar att konstnären var bekant med perspektivets lagar, medan tonmodelleringen av ansiktet och kroppen hos S:t Markus avslöjar ett försök till skapa volym. paletten i miniatyren är mer varierad än den hos khoranerna och första sidorna, tack vare användningen av ockrafärgade, ljusgrönt, blek lila och blåa nyanser som stödjer den grundläggande kombinationen av rött och mörkblått.")

The ugly faces of Judas and the guards undoubtedly reflect the artist's negative attitude to this group of characters. The compositional principle of the miniature consists in the strictly balanced rhythmical arrangement not only of the forms and movements of the figures, but also of the colours.�Precis som in Trettio silvermynt, av samma mästare, (P1.40), sammansättningen av denna scen gränsar till den groteska och samtidigt kännetecknas av naiva rakheten hos folkkonst. /mtd-cil-95-m.jpg "Although the motif of The Last Judgement occurred frequently in early Armenian frescoes, it did not appear in illuminated manuscripts until the thirteenth century when it was taken up by Cilician book illustrators, Toros Roslin among them. In the Malatian Gospels we find a concise version of the scene treated in a grand and solemn manner, which is manifest in the strict symmetry of the composition. The three principal figures are supported by the subsidiary groups creating a rhythmical pattern. The dramatic element is enhanced by the colouring based on dense saturated tones.�Även om motivet för Yttersta domen förekom ofta i tidiga armeniska freskomåleri dök det inte upp i illustrerade manuskript förrän 1200-talet när det upptogs av kilikiska båkmålare, bl.a. Toros Roslin. I de malatianska evangelierna hittar vi en kortfattad version av scenen, behandlad i en storartad och högtidlig manér, vilket framgår i den strikta symmetrin hos kompositionen. De tre huvudfigurerna stöds av de andra grupperna som skapar ett rytmiskt mönster. Det dramatiska elementet förstärks av färgsättningen baserad på de tätta mättade tonerna.")
