The miniatures in this manuscript are among Taronatsi's best works. In these miniatures the local traditions of Siunik are curiously mixed with tendencies derived from Cilician art.�Miniatyrerna i detta manuskript är bland Taronatsis bästa verk. The difference in the size of the figures is due to the artist's attempt to discriminate between the characters in terms of their relative importance, and has nothing to do with the spatial approach or perspective. Such a naive gradation of figures makes the composition of the scene seem somewhat schematic, in contrast to the figures themselves, treated in an almost realistic manner.<br>The palette of the artist is rich and brilliant, consisting of subtle shades of pink, violet, light green, golden or brown, combined with occasional bright touches of dark blue, red and gold. The magnificence of colour is supported by the beauty of the filigree ornamentation of the framing, whose floral design incorporates representations of twenty-two prophets, displaying a variety of both facial types and attitudes.�")

The Virgin is depicted sitting beside the cradle. The face looming near it represents Eve, whose appearance in the scene of The Nativity symbolizes redemption of the original sin. The same implication is probably attached to a miniature from a thirteenth-century Greek Gospel manuscript (Paris, Musee National, MS543), where the motif of The Fall is accompanied by the motif of The Nativity.�Scenens komposition är baserad på en arkaisk iconografisk modell vanligt i både den tidiga kristendomskonsten i Bysans och i den medeltida europeiska målningen. Jungfrun är avbildad sittande vid sidan om vaggan. Ansiktet som syns nära henne representerar Eva, vems närvaro i Kristi födelses scen symboliserar frälsningen från det ursprunliga syndet. Samma implikation är antagligen använt i miniatyren from 1200-talets grekiska evengeliemanuskript (Paris Musee National MS543), där motivet för Syndafallet åtföljs av motev för Kristi födelse.")

Here, the ornamental patterns decorate not only the background and the architectural details, but also the Evangelist's robes. The picture resembles a carpet, and this visual effect is further enhanced by the ornamental bands added to the frame and creating the impression of a carpet fringe.�Utsmyckningen spelar en ledande roll i illustartionen av detta manuskript, som även är ett framstående exemplar även bland illustrerade miniatyrer. Här, dekorerar de utsmyckande mönstren inte bara bakgrunden och bidrar med arkitektoniska detaljer, utan dekorerar även evangelisternas skrud. The treatment of their large, almost monumental figures shows the fine draughtsmanship and the painterly skill of the artist. The figures stand against an ornamented background enlivened in the centre by an almost realistic touch - two arches with accurately rendered masonry, and a recess with a jug between them. The latter detail hints at the setting of the event, which was supposed to have taken place by a well. At the same time the Virgin has a ball of yarn in her hand, an allusion to her upbringing in the Temple of Jerusalem where she would spin and weave the priests' vestments. The miniature, therefore, combines two iconographic versions of The Annunciation - The Annunciation at the Well (the apocryphal version) and The Annunciation in the Temple.�Bilderna av Jungfrun och ärkeängeln Gabriel, avbildade i ett mjukt och delikat sätt, kännetecknas av skönehten och andligheten i deras ansikten. Behandlingen av deras stora, nästan monumentala figurer, visar konstnärens teckningskonst och hans målarskicklighet. Figurerna står mot en utsmyckad bakgrund upplivad i mitten genom ett nästan realitiskt inslag - två bågar med noggrannt återgiven murbruk och avbrott med ett kil mellan dem. Den senare detaljen avslöjar händelsens arrangemang, som lär ha ägt rum vid brunnen. The decline of Cilician miniature art towards the end of the thirteenth century is quite evident in this manuscript. It concerns the Evangelists' portraits and to an even greater extent the decor of the illuminated folios. The figures in the miniatures lose their suave elegance, the colours are no longer rich or refined. At the same time the main principles of figural and facial treatment and the traditions of the compositional arrangement of the scenes, inherited from the 1280s, remain almost unchanged.�Nedgången hos kilikisk miniatyr mot slutet av 1200-talet är rätt uppenbart i detta manuskript. Det rör sig om evengelisternas porträtt och i en ännu högre grad om dekoren av den illustrerade sidorna. Figurerna i miniatyrerna förlorar sin milda elegans, färgerna är inte längre rika eller förfinade. Samtidigt kvarblir principerna för figurernas och ansiktenas behandling och traditionerna för det kompositionella arrangemanget hos scenen, ärvt från 1280-talet, så gott som intakt.

Although the general style of the few marginals, headpieces and initials in this Bible is undoubtedly related to that of the 1286 Lectionary, the decor as such is much more modest, and the small slanting script gives an altogether different appearance to the illuminated folios.�Även om den allmänna stilen hos de få marginalerna, överstycken och initialerna i denna bibel är utan tvekan relaterade till det hos 1286 års Evangeliebok, är dekoren betydligt mer sparsamt och den mindre lutande skriften ger ett övergripande annat utseende till de illustrerade sidorna.
