Although the general style of the few marginals, headpieces and initials in this Bible is undoubtedly related to that of the 1286 Lectionary, the decor as such is much more modest, and the small slanting script gives an altogether different appearance to the illuminated folios.�Även om den allmänna stilen hos de få marginalerna, överstycken och initialerna i denna bibel är utan tvekan relaterade till det hos 1286 års Evangeliebok, är dekoren betydligt mer sparsamt och den mindre lutande skriften ger ett övergripande annat utseende till de illustrerade sidorna.

/mtd-cil-131-m.jpg "The traditional austere solemnity of the Ascension scene, created first and foremost by its strictly symmetrical composition, is somewhat disturbed in this version due to the nervously expressive postures of the apostles and the dynamic movements of the flying angels.<br>Unfortunately the almost complete loss of blues in the paint layer impedes an adequate appreciation of the original colouring of the miniature and diminishes its overall emotional impact. We may try to visualize the original colouring with the help of the few preserved patches of blue. The colour combinations must have been refined and exquisite, including the contrasting shades of dark blue, pinkish-violet and gold. In all other miniatures in this manuscript the illuminator shows himself as a fine colourist with a rich and effective palette dominated by a wide range of violet and lilac shades.�Den traditionella spartanska högtidligheten hos scenen om Kristi himmelsfärd, skapad först och främst genom dess slående symmetriska komposition, är något störd i denna version på grund av den nervöst uttrycka kroppshållningen hos apostlarna och de dynamiska rörelserna hos de flygande änglarna. Tyvärr hämamr den så gott som totala förlusten av den blåa färgen en tillfredsställande uppskattning av den originella färgsättningen hos miniatyren och förringar dess känslomässiga intryck. Vi må försöka visualisera den ursprungliga färgsättningen med hjälp av de få bevarade bitarna av blå. The influence of Latin illuminated Gospels is manifest in the Evangelists' portraits which are incorporated into the headpiece of the corresponding Gospel. The Evangelists are fair-haired and have tonsures which make them look like Roman Catholic priests. Latin models are also discernible in the decorative initials and in the ornamentation of the page. The somewhat schematic treatment of details, however, as well as the lack of optical approach and the saturated colouring should be undoubtedly referred to the national Armenian tradition.�Målningen från Perugia-evangeliet brås mycket på den latinska manuskripttraditionen. Inflyttandet av latinska illustrerade evengelierna sysns i evangelisternas porträtt som finns inarbetade i huvudstycket i respektive evengeliebok. Evangelisterna är fagerhåriga och har tonsurer som gör att de ser ut som romerk-katolska präster. Latinska modeller är också urskiljbara i de dekorativa initialerna och i utsmyckningen av sidan. Den någon schematiska behandlingen av detaljer, så väl som avsknaden av optisk närmande och den mörka färgsättningen bör dock refereras utan tvekan till den armeniska nationella traditionen.")

The miniatures of Hrstakes are usually stylized to such an extent that the forms of the figures, the folds of their garments, the details of the setting, etc. are subordinated to the all-important linear effect and are therefore perceived as purely ornamental details. At the same time, in spite of the limited palette, composed mainly of green and red with occasional additions of blue and brown, his miniatures impress one by the harmony of their colouring and the skilfully balanced composition.�Återigen har vi här två scener illustrerande Kristi mirakel - ett motiv som var extremt populär hos Vaspourakans miniatyrmålare - lagts ihop på en sida. Miniatyrerna av Hrstakes är vanligen så pass stiliserade att formerna hos figurerna, vecken hos deras kläder, detaljerna hos arrangemanget etc. är underordnade den viktiga linjära effekten och är därför ansedda som rent dekorativa detaljer. The miniatures in this manuscript are among Taronatsi's best works. Certain characteristics, however, rule out the possibility of attributing the manuscript to a Cilician master. Such is, for example, the free and sweeping manner of painting resulting in a somewhat generalized treatment of forms, typical of the north-east of historical Armenia.�Miniatyrerna i manuskriptet avslöjar inflytandet av kilikiansk konst som omfattar både ikonografin och tekniken. Den rikliga användningen av guld är också ett välkänt kilikianskt drag. Vissa särdrag utesluter dock möjligheten att manuskriptet kan vara producerat av ett kilikianskt mästare. The conglomeration of buildings seen behind the Evangelist is depicted, in the typically medieval manner, with the help of inverted perspective meant to render spatial depth. Both the buildings and the figure of the Evangelist are characterized by somewhat elongated proportions. The skilful treatment of the folds of St. Matthew's robe and the subtle tonal modelling of the face suggest that the artist was trained under a very competent master.�Miniatyren visar konstnärens intresse i arkitektoniska bakgrund, även uppenbart i andra manuskript tillhörande samma grupp som 1270 års Bibel. Anhopningen av byggnader som syns bakom evangelisterna är avbildad på ett typiskt medeltida sätt, med hjälp av omvänt perspektiv avsett för att återge ett spatialt djup. The contrast between the relatively small figure of St. Mark and the tall magnificent buildings reaching almost to the top border creates an effect of solemnity. The optical treatment of the townscape shows that the artist was familiar with the laws of perspective, while the tonal modelling of the face and the body of St. Mark betrays an attempt to convey volume. The palette of the miniature is more varied than that of the khorans and first pages thanks to the use of ochreous, light green, pale lilac and blue shades supporting the basic combination of reds and dark blues.�Porträtten av evangelisterna i Smbats evangelium, lik de i 1270 års Bibel, är markerade med ett uppenbart intresse för det arkitektoniska skapandet. Kontrasten mellan den relativ lilla figuren av S:t Markus och den långa magnifika byggnaden som sträcker sig nästan ända upp till övre kanten skapar en effekt av storhet.
