In their treatment of these subjects the artists, although mainly relying upon the iconographic canon, sometimes offered their own interpretation. The artist imitated the models which were in wide use at the time in Armenian book illumination.�Illustrationer av visionberättelser dyker först upp i den armeniska miniatyrmålningen vid slutet av 1200-talet och blev senare en traditionell del av Evangelium-cykel. I sin behandling av dessa ämnen, trots huvudsaklig beroende av de ikonografiska kanonen, erbjöd konstnärerna ibland sina egna tolkningar. The arrangement of the figures standing four abreast is characteristic of tenth- and eleventh-century Armenian manuscripts. The emphasized linear quality of the miniature and the general symmetry and regularity of the drawing and colouring enable the artist to strike an original note in the treatment of the subject. There is no doubt that Melchizedek was a highly gifted artist and a prominent figure in Armenian medieval art.�Konstnärens förkärlek för arkaiska modeller finns manifesterad i denna grupp av fyra evangelister. Arrangemanget av figurerna som står sida vid sida är karaktäristisk för 900- och 1000-talens armeniska manuskript. Den betonade linjära kvaliteten hos miniatyren och den allmänna symmetrin och regelbundenheten hos ritningen och färgsättningen tillåter konstnären att skapa en originell bild av ämnet. Det finns inga tvivel om att Melchizedek var en högt begåvad konstnär och en framstående figur i armenisk medeltida konst.")

The 1332 Gospels belongs to the small group of Crimean/Armenian manuscripts whose illumination was inspired by the art of the Palaeologan Renaissance.
The miniatures in the manuscript easily fall into two groups representing the work of two different masters, one of them probably being Grigor Sukiasants who is mentioned in the colophon as the scribe of the book.�1332 års Evengeliebok tillhör den lilla gruppen av Krim-armeniska manuskript vilkas målninagr inspirerades av konsten hos Palaeologiska renässansen. Miniatyrerna i gruppen faller enkelt i två grupper, representerade av verket tillhörande två olika mästare, avvilka en var förmodligen Grigor Sukiasants som omnämns i kolofonen som författare till boken.

The Virgin is shown as a young peasant woman wearing a bright-coloured dress. With the water jug upon her shoulders, she stares at the archangel in genuine surprise at this sudden appearance. The light and cheerful colouring combines with the gay floral ornamentation in imparting a joyful atmosphere to the scene.�Miniatyren representerar en sällsynt ikonografisk version baserd på apokryfiska källor - Bebådelsen vid brunnen. Jungfrun visas som en ung bondekvinna iklädd en ljusfärgad klänning. Med en vattenkanna på sina axlar, stirrar hon på ärkeängeln med en riktig förvåning för hans plötsiga uppenbarelse. Ljuset och den glada färgsättningen kombinerar med den glada blommiga utsmyckningen i återgivningen av en fröjdfull atmosfär i scenen.")

But the most striking thing about the miniature is its emotion-charged colouring. The dark and gloomy hues give a tragic touch to the picture, while Christ's eyes seem to express serene calm and fortitude.�Sidan är anmärkningsvärd för dess tydliga och eleganta kaligrafi i vilken guldbokstäber och dekorativa initialer är satt mot de strama svarta karaktärerna av unicalskrift och för dess utsökta konstnärliga marginalminiatyrer som är i perfekt harmoni med den marginella utsmyckningsdesignen. Tserun belongs to a group of Vaspurakan artists whose work was entirely based on and inspired by the local traditions of book illumination. Tserun had numerous pupils and followers, so that the term "Tserunian style" came to be adopted in specialist literature.�Tserun tillhör en grupp avVaspourakans konstnärer vars verk var helt baserat på och inspirerat av de lokala traditionerna för bokmålning. Tserun hade flera elever och följare, så att begreppet "Tseruniska stilen" kom att antas i speciella litteratur.
