The miniatures in this manuscript are among Taronatsi's best works. /mtd-cil-102-m.jpg "Whereas in The Descent from the Cross (PL 96) the artist emphasized the inner dramatism of the scene, in The Crucifixion he is more concerned with the motifs of sacrifice and redemption, and in his attempt to convey the latter he endows the otherwise mournful scene with a certain touch of elation. This is achieved by the soft colouring excluding all contrasting colours, as well as by the treatment of the principal characters. The allegories of Ecclesia and Synagogue which were quite a novelty in the Armenian miniature at the time were borrowed by the artist from Byzantine and Western European art.�Medan i Nedstigningen från korset (PL96) har konstnären betonat den inre dramatiken i scenen, är han i Korsfästelsen mer mån om motiven för uppoffring och botgöring och i sitt försök att uttrycka den senare skänker han en viss upprymdhet till den i övrigt sorgsna scenen. Detta uppnås genom den mjuka färgsättningen så väl som genom behandlingen av huvudkaraktärerna. Predikarens och Synagogans allegorier som var något av en nymodighet i armeniska miniatyren vid denna tid lånades av konstnären från BYsans och västeuropeisk konst.")

The 1332 Gospels belongs to the small group of Crimean/Armenian manuscripts whose illumination was inspired by the art of the Palaeologan Renaissance.
The miniatures in the manuscript easily fall into two groups representing the work of two different masters, one of them probably being Grigor Sukiasants who is mentioned in the colophon as the scribe of the book.�1332 års Evengeliebok tillhör den lilla gruppen av Krim-armeniska manuskript vilkas målninagr inspirerades av konsten hos Palaeologiska renässansen. Miniatyrerna i gruppen faller enkelt i två grupper, representerade av verket tillhörande två olika mästare, avvilka en var förmodligen Grigor Sukiasants som omnämns i kolofonen som författare till boken.

The buildings, although schematically treated, resemble actually existing structures. Byggnaderna, trots det schematiska behandlingen, påminner faktiskt om verkliga strukturer. Det samma gäller stolen på vilken evangelisten sitter: liknande trästolar finns fortfarande i armeniska byar.")

But the most striking thing about the miniature is its emotion-charged colouring. The dark and gloomy hues give a tragic touch to the picture, while Christ's eyes seem to express serene calm and fortitude.�Sidan är anmärkningsvärd för dess tydliga och eleganta kaligrafi i vilken guldbokstäber och dekorativa initialer är satt mot de strama svarta karaktärerna av unicalskrift och för dess utsökta konstnärliga marginalminiatyrer som är i perfekt harmoni med den marginella utsmyckningsdesignen.
