The Gospel manuscript copied in the fifteenth century was later supplemented with eight folios containing thirteenth- or fourteenth-century miniatures on Old and New Testament subjects.�Evangeliemanuskriptet som kopierades under 1400-talet kompletterades senare med åtta sidor innehållande 1200- eller 1300-tals miniatyrer om motiv ur Gamla och Nya testament.

/mtd-gr-32-m.jpg "The anonymous artist must have actually met Grigor Tatevatsi, celebrated scholar, philosopher and artist, otherwise it is hard to account for the almost naturalistic details in the portrait, for instance the half-closed lid of the left eye, probably the result of an illness. On the whole, the portrait betrays the artist's attempt to break with the prevalent medieval tendency towards a schematic treatment of characters, depicting instead a concrete person. The portrait, which agrees with a recorded description of the scholar's appearance, was regarded at the time as an authentic likeness, painted from life. It was therefore copied by different artists over the years; some later copies have been preserved.�Den anonyma konstnären måste faktiskt ha mött Grigor Tatevatsi, en berömd vetenskapsman, filosof och konstnär, annars är det svårt att förklara de nästan naturtrogna detaljerna i porträtten, t.ex. den halvstängda ögonlocket på det vänstra ögat, förmodligen resultatet av en sjukdom. Although the general style of the few marginals, headpieces and initials in this Bible is undoubtedly related to that of the 1286 Lectionary, the decor as such is much more modest, and the small slanting script gives an altogether different appearance to the illuminated folios.�Även om den allmänna stilen hos de få marginalerna, överstycken och initialerna i denna bibel är utan tvekan relaterade till det hos 1286 års Evangeliebok, är dekoren betydligt mer sparsamt och den mindre lutande skriften ger ett övergripande annat utseende till de illustrerade sidorna.

The Matenadaran collection includes thirteen manuscripts illuminated by Zachariah Aghtamartsi between 1354 and 1403. The design of the book is unusual for the Armenian illuminated manuscripts in that the miniatures are incorporated into the text, sometimes taking up more than a half of the page.�Matenadarans samling omfattar tretton manuskrip illustrerade av Zachariah Aghtamartsi, mellan 1354 och 1403. Although the general effect is two-dimensional, the figures and details of the setting stand out clearly against the gold background. The main group is formed by Mary, St.Joseph<br>and the angel, the figure of the Virgin serving as the compositional centre.<br>The colour range which, together with the above-mentioned contrast of dark blue and gold, also includes delicate violet tints and bright patches of red, gives a jubilant note to the miniature.�Den kompakta karaktären hos kompositionen är till en större del på grund av dess färgsättning, baserad på den skarpa kontrasten mellan det gyllene halon runt Jungfruns huvud och den djupt mättade blåa färgen hos bakgrunden som representerar grottan öppning. Although his palette does not include pure local colours, it is rich in various saturated hues, like pink, grey and greenish- or brownish-red.�Miniatyrerna i evangeliet är stilistisk relaterade till de i 1286 års Evangeliebok, som innebär att de var antingen gjorda av samma mästare eller åtminstone producerade vid samma skriptorium.
