The miniatures in this manuscript are among Taronatsi's best works. In these miniatures the local traditions of Siunik are curiously mixed with tendencies derived from Cilician art.�Miniatyrerna i detta manuskript är bland Taronatsis bästa verk. I dessa miniatyrer blandas de lokala traditionerna i Siunik noggrannt med tendenser från den kilikiska konsten.

/mtd-gr-43-m.jpg "In accordance with the Vaspurakan tradition of the time, the accent in Vardan's interpretation of the Nativity is on the motif of The Adoration of the Magi. In the miniature, the Virgin and Child turn their heads to look at the approaching Magi. The laconic composition includes only the principal characters, represented against an almost blank background, with a summary indication of the setting. The drawing is both delicate and supple, and the contours are painted in light and dark shades of blue, which gives them a dynamic vividness. The light and airy treatment of the miniature produces the impression of a water-colour.�Enligt dåtidens tradition i Vaspourakan, finns tonfallet i Vardans tolkning av Jesu födelse i motivet hos De vise männens tillbedjan- I miniatyren vänder Jungfrun och barnet sina huvuden för att titta på de annalkande vise männen. Den ordknappa kompositionen inkluderar endast de viktiga karaktärerna, representerade mot en så gott som blank bakgrund och en sammanfattande indikation av scenbilden. Ritningen är både delikat och smidig och konturerna är målade med ljusa och mörka nyanser av blå, vilka ger dem en dynamisk livlighet. Den lätta och luftiga sammansättningen av miniatyren producerar intrycket av en vattenfärg.")

The space within the framework, instead of containing the text of the letter of Eusebius or the Canon tables, is filled with an ornamental pattern of crescent-shaped, pointed and swirling leaves. The pattern is similar to those used in the Moush Homilarium and in the 1201 Gospels and is also evocative of the wall reliefs in the monastery of Airivank where the manuscript was produced.�Behandlingen av khoranen är något ovanligt. Utrymmet mellan ramverket, istället för att omfatta texten hos brevet från Eusebius eller texten för kanonskriften, är fylld med ett utsmyckningsmönster av halvmånsformade, spetsiga och virvlande löv. Mönstret är likt de som använts i Moush homilarium och i 1201 års Evangelium och påminner även om väggrelieferna i klostret Airivank där manuskriptet porducerades.")

The influence of Latin illuminated Gospels is manifest in the Evangelists' portraits which are incorporated into the headpiece of the corresponding Gospel. The Evangelists are fair-haired and have tonsures which make them look like Roman Catholic priests. Latin models are also discernible in the decorative initials and in the ornamentation of the page. The somewhat schematic treatment of details, however, as well as the lack of optical approach and the saturated colouring should be undoubtedly referred to the national Armenian tradition.�Målningen från Perugia-evangeliet brås mycket på den latinska manuskripttraditionen. Inflyttandet av latinska illustrerade evengelierna sysns i evangelisternas porträtt som finns inarbetade i huvudstycket i respektive evengeliebok. Evangelisterna är fagerhåriga och har tonsurer som gör att de ser ut som romerk-katolska präster. Latinska modeller är också urskiljbara i de dekorativa initialerna och i utsmyckningen av sidan. Den någon schematiska behandlingen av detaljer, så väl som avsknaden av optisk närmande och den mörka färgsättningen bör dock refereras utan tvekan till den armeniska nationella traditionen.")

Tserun had numerous pupils and followers, so that the term "Tserunian style" came to be adopted in specialist literature.�Tserun tillhör en grupp avVaspourakans konstnärer vars verk var helt baserat på och inspirerat av de lokala traditionerna för bokmålning. Tserun hade flera elever och följare, så att begreppet "Tseruniska stilen" kom att antas i speciella litteratur.

The ugly faces of Judas and the guards undoubtedly reflect the artist's negative attitude to this group of characters. The compositional principle of the miniature consists in the strictly balanced rhythmical arrangement not only of the forms and movements of the figures, but also of the colours.�Precis som in Trettio silvermynt, av samma mästare, (P1.40), sammansättningen av denna scen gränsar till den groteska och samtidigt kännetecknas av naiva rakheten hos folkkonst. De fula ansikten hos Judas och vakterna reflekterar otvivelaktigt konstnärens negativa attityd gentemot denna group av personer. /mtd-dia-161-m.jpg "The miniature is based upon the iconographic pattern very rarely occurring in Armenian representations of The Passion cycle: apart from the usual attributes of the scene, the composition includes symbols of Ecclesia and Synagogue, of the Sun and the Moon, and also the figures of lamenting angels. In terms of its artistic and emotional impact this is one of the most expressive miniatures in the manuscript. The tragic atmosphere permeating the scene is felt not only in the figures, but also in the colouring, with its sombre shades of dark blue. The background represents the walls of Jerusalem (one bearing an inscription with the artist's signature).�Miniatyren är baserad på ikonografiskt mönster som är ytterst sällsynt förekommande i armeniska representationer av Kristi lidande: förutom den ovanliga attributerna i scenen, kompositionen även inkluderar symbolerna för ecclesia och synagoga, solen och månen, och även figurerna av klagande änglar. Vad det gäller dess konstnärliga och känslomässiga kraft är den en av de mest uttryckskraftiga miniatyrerna i manuskriptet. Den tragiska atmosfären som genomsyrar scenen känns inte igen enbart hos figurerna, utan även i färgsättningen, med dess dystra skuggor av mörkblå. Bakgrunden representerar Jerusalems murar (en bär på en inskription med konstnärens signatur).")

The manuscript was copied in Cilicia for the prominent Cilician Constable Smbat. By the end of the thirteenth century it had changed hands and found its way to the Crimea, where it was supplemented with a series of historiated miniatures.�Manuskritpet kopierades i Kilikien åt den framstående ståthållaren Smbat. Vid slutet av 1200-talet hade den bytt ägare och hittade sin väg till Krim, där det kompletterades med en serie av illustrerade miniatyrer.
